Work Diary- 3rd Shoot

In todays lesson I did a shoot for my personal project in the studio. I photographed a number of different fruit but not the whole fruit just the inside of the fruits as I like the colours and the textures of them. If I was to do this lesson again I would get a bigger variety of fruits and I would experiment will the different angles and shot types I could use. I would also try to get even closer images to capture more in-depth detail of the inside of the fruit.

In this image I have taken an extreme close up of the inside of a pomegranate. I used the boom as the lighting for my images, making it very bright, highlighting the colours and the contrast between the bright red and the darker red. Due to the fact that the image is so close it allows the audience to image what the texture would feel like. If I was to take this image again I would experiment with the different angles that I could take it from.

This image is an extreme close up of a red grape fruit. Due to the image being so close up you can see that detailed lines and patterns of the inside of the grape fruit. I light the vibrant red colour of the inside and it looks brighter against the white line in the centre. I like the composition of the image as its only including the inside and not the outside of the fruit. I used the same lighting for this image as the above image. If I was to take this image again I would again experiment with the different angles.

My inspiration behind this shoot came from the use of bright colours used in close up images that I found when completing my personal project image bank of 25 pictures.

As a result of this shoot I am going to incorporate more food photography into my future shoots as I felt that all the pictures looked appealing to look at due to the use of bright colours but also because all pictures of food are appealing as everybody likes to look at food images. From this shoot I have found that the use of vibrant colours make the pictures more interesting. For my next shoot I am going to find an alternative way to photograph vibrant colours.

Work Diary- 2nd Shoot

In todays lesson I did a personal shoot for my project. I took pictures of a dragon fly from a variety of different angles. If I was to do this lesson again I would take more photos from a high angle as I like the detail of the wings that you can see from above, however I didn't capture many pictures from this angle, therefore next time I would like to.

In this image I have take from the same level as the dragon fly and cropped the front of the image to create the close up effect, making the image look closer than I actually took it. The lighting used is very natural as when I took the images I was on location. I like the bright colours of the dragon fly's body and the contrast between the green and the brown. In this image you can see the detail of the wings and it makes them look like stained glass.

In this image you can see that I have captured the movement of the wings because of the blurred effect it has created on the right and left hand side. The front of the dragon fly is in focus because it is close to the camera, where as the end part of the body that is further away is out of focus. You can see the patterns on the face because the image is so close. If I was to take this image again I would take it on a different background, for example: White to make the colours stand out more.

My inspiration behind this shoot came from Collin Hutton's work as I researched his work as he was one of my chosen photographers. I loved the way he was able to show insects in a beautiful way and wanted to do this myself.

As a result of this shoot I have found that I like the use of the vibrant colour scheme, especially the green colour scheme, therefore in my next shoot I will photograph different types of fruits, including a kiwi as its the same vibrant green colour. From this shoot I have also realised that I prefer studio shoots rather than location shoots as the lighting is a lot better and the pictures generally look more professional.

This photographer uses minimalism, bold colours and careful composition to set his portfolio apart from other macro photography.
In this image the main focus of the image is the single water drop. The flower petals closest to the camera are in focus and then as they get further away they are out of focus. The background is slightly blurred. There is a contrast between the variety of different colours. The composition only includes a section of the flower because the photographer doesn't want the flower to take away the focus from the water drop.

By having these images in the reflection it makes his work more interesting and fun to look at. The background of this image is completely blurred out so that the main focus of the image is the hook holding the water droplets.
