Work Diary - Location Portraiture

In todays lesson I had to take pictures for Location Portraiture, which is the use of wide angle and focal length to create a distorted effect. If I was to do this lesson again I feel my pictures would be a lot better as I now have more understanding of Location Portraiture and I also know what angles and compositions work best, for example I found that back of the head photos looked more effective than face forward photographs.

In this photographs the model is looking towards the building beside her, with the use of wide angle the model looked bigger than she would be in reality, creating a distorted perspective. The model herself is in focus and the background is blurred, I did this by separating the model from the background, this is known as focus length. If I was to take this image again I would take it from both high and low angles to see the different effects it has on the picture.

This photograph is from my first attempt of pictures for Location Portraiture. I then realised that back of the head pictures looked better because photographs of the face sometimes looked out of place because the eye line wasn't in the right position and sometimes the model looked like she shouldn't be there. Therefore in my second attempt I focused on the back of the head photos. In this image the models hair is in focus (the subject closest to the camera) and the background is blurred, this is called focal length. If I was to take this photograph again I would take it exactly the same but have the models head straight because she is slightly looking down at the floor.
