Photographer Two

Heather Angel

Why chosen: I have chosen this photographer because she has a wide range of macro photographs, she doesn't just specify in one area & I think her work could give me a lot of ideas for my own work.
Heather Angel, is a British award winning wildlife photographer who constantly travels the globe in search of pictures. She has a passion for nature and she got her degree at Bristol University. She had no ambition to be a photographer but whilst working as a marine biologist she used her camera to document marine life, eventually she became hooked on photography.

This photograph is a close up image of the inside of a flower. You can see the detail of the petals and imagine the texture of the soft and smooth petals. You can also see how the colour of the petals changes as it gets to the outside, it goes from light pink to darker pink. The lighting of this image is rather bright and there are no shadows created by the lighting.

In this image you can see the movement of a crab trying to carry a small stone. you can see the sharpness of the crabs claws. The lighting of this picture is very natural because it looks like the sun is shinning on the crabs claw because it has a lighter area. You can see that the body of the crab has blue and brown dots.

This image is another flower, it shows the clear shape of the flower and due to the fact that the flower is on water it makes it feel like its floating. You can image the texture of the flower to be very soft and smooth. The lighting used is very neutral.

This image is a extreme close up of a crocodiles eye, you can see the different colours of the crocodiles skin turning from dark green to light green and then yellow. You can see the black scales and bumpy/lumps around the eye forming a circle shape. The crocodiles eye is a fire, orangey red colour. The lighting used for this image is very vibrant and highlights the crocodiles colours on the face, it makes the yellow stand out.

Influence: This photographer has influenced me by making me notice that its not just flowers you can take close up pictures of, there are a number of other pictures I can take that still look as nice as flowers do.

Summary: Over all this photographer has influence me because she has made me realise that I need to experiment a bit more with my work and ideas. I am still interested in this photographers work as she photographs a number of different elements from flowers to animals, therefore her work involves a wide variety and makes it interesting every time I look at her photographs.

My Own Work:

This image is my own photograph of part of a flower. This shoot was influenced by Heather's work as I like how she focussed on sections of the flowers rather than showing the whole of the flower as it shows more detail, for example majority of her photographs just show the centre of the flower or the edge of the petals. Therefore my photograph links to her work as it only shows one section of the flower allowing the viewers to see the beauty of the petals.
