Colin Hutton
Why chosen: I have chosen Colin Hutton as one of my photographers because I am very interested in his work, it has given me a number of ideas that I would like to include in my work. I like how he mades ugly bugs look beautiful.
Colin Hutton was born in Glasgow, he was the son of a solider. After the idea of having a military career he quickly ditched that the thought. He instead trained as a photographer & film-maker at Bournemouth College of Arts and Design.

This image is an extreme close up of a caterpillar, an extreme close up is also known as Macro photography, this is what colin Hutton specializes in. The contrast between the very bright yellow and the blue background makes the shape and features of the caterpillar really stand out. You can see from this image that the caterpillar is holding onto the branch with its tinny legs/feet, this is because the image is so close it allows you to see detail you wouldn't normally see.

In this photograph the photographer has focused on the face of the bug, the background is slightly blurred but the face is in focus. From the image you can imagine the texture of the bug because you can see that it is slightly furry. The bug is looking directly at the camera and you can see the detail of its eyes, they are almost bubble looking.
This image is a close up of a butterfly. The butterfly looks a lot larger in the photograph than it would look in reality, this is due to the way the picture has been taken. You can see the detail in the butterflies wings and the sharp edging of the butterfly shows a clear shape and outline. The butterfly almost looks posed the way it is standing so still on the flower branch. The lighting of the image is very natural and soft.

This photo is a close up of a spider. You can see the furry legs and body it almost looks like the spider has spiky hair. The spider is carefully placed on a leaf and is against a green/blue background. The lighting is very vibrant on one side and quite shadowy on the right hand side.
Influence: This photographer has influenced my work because I would defiantly like to include close ups of bugs in my project. It has also influenced me to photograph things that may not look so nice in reality because most people would say bugs are ugly, however in these images they look beautiful.
Summary: Overall this photographer has influenced my work because I have taken my own images of a dragon fly which I was inspired to do when looking at Colin's work. I am still extremely interested in this photographers work as I feel his photographs make ugly insects such as spiders look beautiful and I like how you get to see the insects from such a close perspective as you wouldn't normally get to see the detail that you can see in his photographs.
My Own Work:

This image is my own photograph that I have taken of a dragon fly, this shoot was inspired by colin's work as I loved the way he made the insects look beautiful. Both my photograph and Colin's photographs link together as they are both extreme close up images that allow the viewers to see the patterns, shapes & textures of the insects that you wouldn't normally see.
